General Information and Copyright
The Merionethshire Railway was proposed at a meeting in
Blaenau Festiniog to carry slate to the Cambrian Railway at Talsarnau and
bypass the Festiniog Railway. This came
about due to the alleged high charges for moving slate on the FR. The enabling Act received Parliamentary
approval on 29 June 1871.

The Merionethshire Railway obtained a further Act in 1876 to extend the time for completion; again in 1879; and lastly in 1882. These extensions were simply to allow for other negotiations to proceed. No work had been done by June 1885 when the powers under the 1882 Act expired so the Act of Abandonment was obtained in 1887. The 1871 Act [but not the others] has been repealed under the Statute Law {Repeals} Act of 2013.
Note: The main act is recorded as JPGs and is therefore shown as a slideshow. The extension acts are recorded as PDFs and can only be shown via a link.
